Croning Ceremony

Be Ceremonial’s unique platform helps you create a Croning ceremony by choosing from our library of curated rituals to acknowledge your unique experience.

What is a Croning Ceremony?

A croning ceremony witnesses, honours, and celebrates a woman as she steps into her own version of the Wise Woman archetype, tapping into the crone’s attributes of clarity, compassion, healing, and transformation.

The crone represents the third stage in the archetypal feminine journey, also known as the Triple Goddess in mythology: Maiden / Mother / Crone. A crone is often associated with a woman beyond childbearing years who has gone through menopause. A crone can also represent a state of mind, and should not be limited by traditional definitions.

Why is it Important?

Crone comes from the word ‘cronus’, meaning time, and ‘crown’, referring to the wisdom that emanates from one’s head. Crones were frequently leaders, midwives, and healers in their communities. In medieval times, the crone was transformed into the witch archetype, changing the sentiment from a compliment to an insult. The crone became synonymous with something negative and fearful, and that narrative is still prevalent in our culture.

Croning ceremonies seek to dismantle the myth that aging women lose their power, and instead celebrates women as they step into a new kind of power that only feminine wisdom and maturity can bring.
