Reimagining Ritual: A Fireside Chat with Megan Sheldon and Chloe Hunter

When
Thu, Aug 13, 2026, 6:30 p.m. PDT
Format
In-Person
Location
Rivendell Retreat Centre, Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada

Most of us inherited our rituals, or the absence of them. We've lost many of the shared structures that once carried us through birth, death, love, and the invisible moments of change we move through, and yet the need to mark those moments hasn't gone anywhere.

Join Megan Sheldon and Chloe Hunter beside the fire at Rivendell for an evening of conversation about what it means to build ritual on our own terms. Drawing on the themes and threads of Megan's book Ritual Without Religion: A Humanist Guide to Creating Secular Ceremonies, the two will explore how ceremony shows up in ordinary life, why our thresholds deserve tending, and what becomes possible when a community decides to mark things together.

This is an open evening for the Bowen Island community ~ free to attend, with plenty of room for questions and conversation.

What to expect

An hour and a half by the fire ~ part conversation between Megan and Chloe, part open exchange with everyone in the room. We'll move through the ideas at the heart of the book: why ritual persists, how to design ceremony that actually fits your life, and what our thresholds ask of us.

Copies of Ritual Without Religion will be available for purchase on the night, and Megan is glad to sign them. Come as you are. No preparation needed, no experience with ritual assumed.
