Grief doesn't follow a timeline, it moves through us in waves, often showing up in the seemingly invisible moments of change that go unmarked or unacknowledged. This 3-hour masterclass explores how we can build our "ritual muscles" so we can meet grief with more presence, process losses over time, and hold space for ourselves and each other as we create more opportunities to grieve in community. Designed for the EOLDAC community, this session offers practical frameworks for creating grief rituals for both self-care and community care.

Why We Need Grief Rituals

This masterclass is designed for end-of-life doulas, grief practitioners, caregivers, and anyone in the EOLDAC community who supports people through loss. Whether you're new to doula work or a seasoned practitioner, this session will deepen your relationship with grief and give you tools you can use, both in your own life and in your practice. No prior experience with ceremony is needed. If you attended the January masterclass on End of Life Rituals, this session will deepen that experience, shifting the focus from the immediate aftermath of a death to the long arc of grief and loss over time. If you didn't attend, you'll find your way in just the same.

Grief Ritual

This is an experiential session, not a lecture. You'll be guided through rituals, invited into reflection, and connected with fellow practitioners in small group breakouts. Megan Sheldon brings warmth, story, and practical wisdom to her facilitation, creating a brave space where you can explore your own grief, learn frameworks for ceremony design, and leave with rituals you can put into practice right away. Expect to be moved, to connect, and to leave with something tangible as you explore our personal and collective relationships with grief.

What you'll learn

In this masterclass, you'll learn how to identify seemingly invisible moments, including silent thresholds like death anniversaries and turning a death age. You'll explore practical frameworks for designing grief rituals and discover daily rituals that build your ceremonial muscles over time, so that when grief arrives, you already have the capacity to meet it. We'll cover self-care rituals for processing grief, compassion fatigue and burnout. You'll learn how to approach grief rituals with clients using permission-based, trauma-informed language, without imposing or overstepping. Finally, you'll develop community care rituals that honour complex grief and build sustainable peer support among doulas and caregivers.
